Exit load

A charge on units redeemed within a set period after purchase.

What it is

An exit load is a percentage of the redemption value charged when units are redeemed or switched out within a period stated in the scheme documents — often 1% within one year for equity schemes, and none for most liquid and overnight funds. It is credited back to the scheme, not kept by the fund house.

In MFIC

MFIC shows the exit load as written in each scheme's Summary Document (or AMFI's scheme details) on the scheme's Costs tab, in comparisons and on scheme pages. Loads apply per purchase, usually on a first-in-first-out basis for SIPs.

Limitations

Loads can change; the version in force is in the latest Scheme Information Document and addenda on the fund house's website.
