CAGR (compound annual growth rate)
The constant yearly rate that turns the starting NAV into the ending NAV.
Formula
CAGR = (NAV_end ÷ NAV_start)^(1 ÷ years) − 1
How MFIC calculates it
From AMFI NAVs for the growth option, using the latest NAV on or before the start date. Periods under one year are shown as absolute returns. Since-launch CAGR uses the first NAV in the data.
How to read it
CAGR smooths a bumpy path into one number. Two schemes with the same 5-year CAGR may have travelled very differently, so read it with rolling returns and drawdown.
Limitations
Point-to-point: one start date, one end date. It changes as the end date moves and can be dominated by where the market was on those two days.
