Life cover should let your family keep living as they do, clear loans and still reach big goals. Build up the number from your own expenses rather than a rough multiple of income.
How is this calculated?
Cover needed = present value of household expenses until the age support is needed (rising with inflation, with the payout earning the chosen return) + loans + future goals − existing savings. The gap subtracts your existing cover.
