About this calculator
Enter how much you plan to invest every month, an assumed annual return and how long you will stay invested. The result shows what you put in, how much could come from growth, and how the picture changes if returns are lower or higher.
How is this calculated?
Each instalment is assumed to be invested at the start of the month. The annual return you enter is converted into the equivalent monthly rate — (1 + annual return)^(1/12) − 1 — so 12% a year really compounds to 12% a year. Some calculators simply divide by 12, which shows a slightly higher figure. Future value = SIP × [((1 + i)^n − 1) ÷ i] × (1 + i).
Questions people ask
What return should I assume for an equity SIP?
Long-term returns from diversified equity funds in India have varied widely by period. Many people use 10–12% for planning and check the result at a lower figure too — the “Conservative” scenario does this for you. No return is guaranteed.
Is a SIP better than a lumpsum?
With the same steady return, money invested earlier grows more, so a lumpsum ends higher. A SIP spreads your entry over time, which reduces the risk of investing everything just before a fall, and suits money that comes in monthly from a salary.
Why is this result lower than some other SIP calculators?
Many calculators divide the annual return by 12, which effectively assumes a higher annual return. We use the exact monthly equivalent, so the figure matches what a fund growing at your chosen rate would actually deliver.
